WARM NC CELEBRATES THE LEGACY OF
DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. WITH THE 7TH ANNUAL MLK DAY OF HOPE
WILMINGTON, NC – WARM NC is mobilizing volunteers to honor the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by helping their neighbors on MLK Day. Now in it’s seventh year, WARM’s “MLK Day of Hope” is a reminder of Dr. King’s words, “Everybody can be great…because anybody can serve…You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
On January 16th, WARM volunteers will change the life of two homeowners in need of urgent, safety-related repairs. One is a single, 92-year-old woman who it the last living sibling of eight. The other is a 73-year-old widow who still works part-time. Both homeowners are grateful for WARM volunteers who will work with WARM construction staff to make their homes safe again. The repairs are done at absolutely no cost to the homeowner.
Substandard housing poses a risk to the health and well-being of its occupants, visitors, and neighbors. According to the American Housing Survey, approximately 6 million homes in the United States are substandard. WARM volunteers put their hearts into every rebuild and we believe everyone deserves to live in a safe and healthy home.
