WARM hosted our first ever Skills Day on Saturday, September 10th. Potential volunteers met our construction staff, practiced using tools, and gained the confidence they needed to work on a WARM rebuild.
“I had no idea what to expect and every WARM staff and crew member knocked it out of the park with their patience, kindness, and fun-loving attitude,” said participant Molly Nece. “What a great way to meet new people, work as teams, gain hands-on knowledge, and be empowered to take on projects that you never knew you could do. Two thumbs up for sure!”
Participants learned valuable lessons about which flooring is best for different rooms and practiced installing both vinyl and laminate flooring. They created brand new stairs and landings. The group also learned how to operate a variety of power tools and the rules of construction site safety.
Kimberly Hulon said she got more out of the workshop than she anticipated. “Gaining the basic skills to help with home repairs is a real confidence booster! The WARM team are truly a great group of folks to work with.”
In addition to learning new skills, our participants also made a positive impact on their community. Each landing that was made during our skills day will be given to one of our homeowners in need.
Our next Skills Day is being planned for spring of 2023. This is a great opportunity to learn something new and make some friends in the process. If you are interested in signing up for our next Skills Day, email our Volunteer Coordinator, Sadie Frye, at sadiefrye@warmnc.org to get on our interest list.
